Les Petits Incidents - Cinq

Le Cinema

If you know me, you know that I'm easily amused by the weirdest things, and this is one of them. Normally, I would say I am an avid movie-goer. Come summer and I see like a movie a week. It's a lot of money spent, but I think of it as a hobby. LOL

Coming to Paris, I didn't know what to expect. To be honest I didn't think much about it. I just assumed I'd be able to pop in a few times and see a movie. It can't be that different right??....Well, I was wrong

There are a few important differences that I'm going to list below.

1. Comment Dit-On...En Français? The names are totally different and about 98% of them are in French. Now if you do not speak French and have not seen a similar poster, you probably won't know what the movie is about. If you speak French, then you're luck. For some reason, I prefer the titles here. They really tell you the story of the movie, so at least you know what the movie is about before you buy a ticket to see it. I do admit sometimes they are strange or offtrack, but that's the French way

Extremement Fort et Incroyablement Pres : Extremely Loud and Incredible Close

'La Couleur de Sentiments' : 'The Color of Feelings'
....Err...What??

'Millenium: Les Hommes Qui N'aiment Pas Les Femmes' : The Men Who Don't Like Women.
Haven't seen it yet but I'm assuming it has to do the with storyline??

Projet X : Project X

'Securite Rapprochee' translates into 'Body Guards'
*blank stare*

Target : Target
But it tells the storyline

Le Territoire Des Loups: The Wolf Territory
Again, simply tells the storyline

La Dame De Fer : The Iron Lady

2. Quand?? 99% of the time, the movies come out a month, two months and sometimes 5 months after they have come out in America. This apparently happens in London too, but Paris takes the piss. I saw 'The Vow' in London first week in February and it's not coming out till May. What? Why? Why?? But rarely some movies come out here before they do else where. Like 'The Artist' and 'Hunger Games'!!!

Je Te Promets : I Promise You

3. Hopping?? C'est pas possible!! The French are strict!!! The way to cinema is built, even if you could movie hop, it'll be a long walk to the next movie. You'd probably have to go up or down the stairs. Not to mention, there's someone in front of every door to check your ticket to make sure it's the right movie. I decided to not even try before I go to jail in another country.

4. L'Expérience Française. I'm definitely going to miss the cinemas here. Starting with the fact that I get a double discount cause I'm in the 18-25 and student group :-). Also, they give you surveys to feel before and after the movie. It's weird but I quite enjoy them. However, the chairs are much smaller and don't recline. I keep saying it, but the French discriminate against fat people, in a lot of ways. But this allows for more efficient use of space so they do not have those "crankyourneckandhurtyoureyes" seats in front by the screen.

The English movies are thankfully in English with French subtitles. And I imagine that sucks for people who actually speak French better than English. Reading subtitles to watch a whole movie is not something that I'd love to engage in

A Plus...x

p.s; Sorry, I have been horrible with posting, I'll try harder to post more frequently :-)
