Le Louvre: Part Deux

Finally got a chance to go to the famous Louvre. This museum has a vast collection of sculptures and paintings. It's quite impossible for someone to see every single one, well maybe if you go on a tour. But I can't spend 4 hours in a museum. So I'm just going to post things that I liked or was interested in

 The ceilings were so extravagant.

Greek & Roman Sculptures

I found that I was more interested in the sculptures especially the Greek sculptures. After taking a Greek mythology class, I have become with anything that is associated with Greek mythology.

Zeus (Jupiter of Smyrna) 2nd C. AD, discovered in 1680 at Izmir
Zeus/Jupiter: God of the Sky & King of the Gods

Bacchus, Italian, 2nd C. AD, from the Richelieu collection
Bacchus/Dionysus: God of Wine
Narcissus, called Hermaphrodite Mazarin or Spirit of Eternal Rest, 3rd C. AD
Narcissus
Winged Victory of Samothrace

Athena (Pallas de Velletri) 1st C. AD
Athena/Minerva: Goddess of War
Ares, 1st-2nd C. AD
Ares/Mars: God of War
Apollo, 2nd C. AD
Apollo: God of the Sun
Hercules carrying the child Télèphe
Hercules & his son Telephe
Mercury (Richelieu Hermes) 2nd C. AD
Hermes/Mercury:  The Messenger God
Venus de Milo (Aphrodite):  Goddess of Love
Cupid/Eros: God of Love
Doesn't Cupid look like he's doing the doggie. LOL

French & Italian Sculptures

Spartacus, Denis Foyatier, 1830

The Three Graces, James Pradier, 1831
The Three Graces
I really loved this sculpture. Simple, but yet so beautiful and elegant.

Satyre and Bacchante (Priestess of Bacchus), Jean-Jacques Pradier, 1834

Paintings

Mona Lisa (La Joconde) behind her protective reflective glass
The Famous Mona Lisa
The crowd around this painting was always much. So annoying cause people were trying to pose with the painting. Pose with a painting  really. Getting a good picture was a problem

Liberty Guiding the People, 1831, Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863)
Liberty guiding the People

I was excited to see this cause Coldplay used it for the cover of their "Viva La Vida: An Death of All His Friends" album and I LOVE Coldplay!!
